Concordia Conservatory of Music & Art, Grades 1-12

Overview

For grades 1–12, includes music and art camp offerings with the Great Beginning Piano Camp, Suzuki Violin Camp, Guitar Launch Camp, Musical Theatre Workshop, Chamber Music Camp, Camp Band Bash, Summer Keys Piano Camp, Vocal Arts Workshop, Drawing and Painting with the Masters, Ceramics - Creating with Clay, and Summer Composition Intensive.  All camps culminate with the Conservatory Summer Festival 2012. In addition, the Conservatory offers Private Music Instruction for all ages and in all instruments.

Musical Theatre Workshop

This four-week summer workshop will produce its own end-of-camp, one-act musical theatre production at the Concordia Conservatory Summer Festival and an all-cast recording. The musical theatre workshop will focus on basic vocal technique, drama skills and choreography. The first week of camp consists of the process of writing the musical. The second through fourth weeks are focused on learning the music and lines, staging the production, rehearsal and performance.

The camp workshop is skill-based, giving each student a unique opportunity to study the many aspects of the musical theatre experience. Our Conservatory Musical Theatre faculty is interested in the development of the individual on a non-competitive basis. Values and respect are part of the experience, guided by a caring and supportive Musical Theatre leadership team.

Great Beginnings Piano Camp

Session 1 June 25-July 13 9am-Noon Grades 1-3 $860 Register

No Camp on Wednesday, July 4

This three-week camp offers children the basics of piano in an engaging, artistic, and social environment. Children will be introduced to listening skills and the fundamental elements of rhythm, melody and notation. The camp progresses through a piano and theory method book over the course of camp. Campers learn individual pieces with the instructor and participate in ensemble playing in the Yamaha keyboard lab. This is a great beginning to piano instruction. The last day of camp includes a performance for parents and friends.

Summer Keys Piano Camp

4 Week Session June 25-July 20 1pm-5pm Grades 4-10 $1,055 Register

No Camp on Wednesday, July 4.

This four-week piano camp offers students the opportunity to play duets, trios and large group ensembles. The campers schedule includes daily coachings, practice time, and group activities including Music Jeopardy, drumming circles, arts & crafts, movies, music research projects, listening and appreciation. The camp culminates in a concert at the Concordia Conservatory Summer Festival and a concert at a local senior residence.

Suzuki Violin Camp

Session 1 June 25-July 13 9am-Noon Grades 1-3 $860 Register

No Camp on Wednesday, July 4.

In the Suzuki method, based on the teachings of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, campers are given weekly private lessons, participate in an ensemble, listen to recordings and enjoy a perfect start in the violin.  Campers are required to bring his/her own violin.

Guitar Launch Camp

Session 1 June 25-July 13 9am-Noon Grades 1-3 $860 Register

No Camp on Wednesday, July 4.

This three-week camp teaches the basics of guitar with interactive instruction.  Children will be introduced to strumming, chords, note reading and beginning technique.  This camp will also connect the art of playing the instrument with art and crafts and related activities.  Each camper is required to bring his/her own guitar to camp.  Contact the Conservatory regarding instrument details.  The last day of camp includes a performance for parents and friends.

Camp Band Bash

4 Week Session June 25-July 20 1pm–5pm Grades 4-8 $1,055 Register

No Camp on Wednesday, July 4.

We are talking a real band with real guitars, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals. Learn to arrange music, along with the ins and outs of performance in an intensive four-week session. Bands will be coached on rhythm, playing solos, balancing sound, microphone technique and general ensemble playing. We will delve into the styles of classic rock, metal, power pop and more. The camp culminates in a concert at the Concordia Conservatory Summer Festival and a recording session.  Have a legit answer when someone asks, “What did you do this summer?”

Chamber Music Camp

4-Week Session June 25-July 20 9am–Noon Grades 3-9 $1025 Register

Chamber music provides students with the opportunity to enhance their performance skills, and expand their musical insight and awareness through coaching sessions. The faculty coach’s role is to be a musical guidance counselor and facilitator.

The objective of the Chamber Music Camp is to provide the students with knowledge and practice in the following areas:

  • reading a musical score: analyzing and evaluating;
  • preparing the individual musical parts and learning non-verbal techniques of communication;
  • active learning and performing;
  • believing in yourself... every member of the group is important.

The Chamber Music Camp is for students in grades 3–9 who have had one or more years of private instruction. Chamber Music participants will be grouped according to their skill level. Students exposed to the Chamber Music experience gain strength as individuals by means of group effort.  Chamber Music is fun! The camp culminates in a concert at the Concordia Conservatory Summer Festival and a concert at a local senior residence.

Vocal Arts Workshop

4-Week Session June 25-July 20 1pm–5pm Grades 6–12 $1,055 Register

No Camp on Wednesday, July 4.

The Vocal Arts Program is an immersive learning experience for middle and high school singers. This four-week program includes a bi-weekly private voice lesson with a faculty member, extensive performance opportunities, coaching sessions with pianists, audition technique classes and master classes.

Working with a team of teachers, students explore the distinctive challenges of the musical theatre genre and classical song repertoire through survey work with songs, characterizations, vocal work, games, Alexander technique and stage movement.

Open to singers and experienced pianists. The camp culminates in a concert at the Concordia Conservatory Summer Festival and a concert at a local senior residence.

Conservatory Summer Festival 2012

Sommer Center Center, July 18 & 19, 6pm

These concerts and exhibitions are open to the public and spotlight the Music Theatre Workshops, Chamber Music, Camp Band Bash, Summer Keys, Vocal Arts, Drawing and Painting with the Masters, and Ceramics camps.

Private Instruction for All Ages

Concordia Conservatory offers private lessons for a six-week session in piano, voice, guitar (acoustic, bass and electric), violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone. Lessons will be 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length and are open to children and adults. Students can register for as few as one or as many as six lessons. Due to this shorter commitment, the summer private instruction is an ideal time for students new to the Conservatory or for a current student to enjoy music instruction throughout the summer.

Drawing and Painting with the Masters

Session 1 June 25-July 20 1pm–5pm Grades 4–9 $1410 Register

No Camp on Wednesday, July 4.

Learn from the great artists throughout history! This camp will focus on the history of the artists, and campers will draw and garner inspiration from the great artists' work using charcoal, pen, ink and other drawing mediums.  Then, the campers will paint using life, plein air, and their imagination bringing together their drawing and painting techniques.  The camp culminates in an exhibition at the Concordia Conservatory Summer Festival.

Ceramics - Creating with Clay

Session 1 June 25–July 20 1pm–5pm Grades 4–9 $1410 Register

Learn clay as an art functional medium.  Make a mask, a bowl, and much more.  Develop and strengthen your wheel-throwing skills through instruction, short demonstrations, and practice on the potter's wheel.  This camp is structured to allow for individual practice time and development of independent projects.  The camp culminates in an exhibition at the Concordia Conservatory Summer Festival.  Return to top of page.
